Aston Martin Cygnet: No joke

There was talk of this Aston Martin compact months ago, and I couldn't work out whether they were being serious about it.

So here it is. There is no need to adjust your computer screen. It actually is supposed to be that shape. This is the Cygnet, Aston's answer to a future with not much in the way of petrol and presumably no room to drive a DB9.

Where Porsche went all out and delivered a hybrid supercar, Aston's answer to a concept car fit for an oil-free future is a Toyota IQ with some badges and grills stuck on it. It looks like the budget didn't stretch to the wheels.

There is talk that this creation will only be available to owners of grown-up Astons, as a sort of city runabout, presumably.

Whether any Aston Martin owners will put up with the indignity of zipping around in a ponced-up IQ remains to be seen.

All the same, I'd have one, if I was given it. But I'd have the accelerator pedal checked out first.

  1. Looks more like an IQ than an AYGO to me.

Kinda cool but not gonna swap in the DB7

  2. It is an IQ, you're right. I've changed the copy accordingly.
    Thanks for the comment.
