It makes sense really for Carhartt to get in on the fixed gear movement. Being a no-nonsense workwear inspired brand with a paired down aesthetic, it kind of has something in common with bikes which rarely even feature brakes, let alone poncey nonsense like gears.
So along with a line of clothing tailored to the fixed-gear market, Carhartt has also got together with UK fixie manufacturer Charge to bring out a souped-up Plug bike, featuring a very practical deep red paint scheme and some substantial looking wheels.
It's also got a flip-flop hub, as is standard with most Charge bikes, which means that if you don't like braking with your pedals and risking breaking your neck, you can just swap over to a freewheel and ride like any other cyclist. Except without gears.
Other than that and the stickers, this looks just like your normal Charge Plug Freestyler. But then there's not a lot more you can do with a bike which has had all the bells and whistles removed in the first place.
And you know what they say, simple is often best.
