Porsche 918 concept: Milkfloats have come a long way

OK I do prefer to bike everywhere, but I would still own a Porsche, given half a chance. It's just that there's something about them. All curves and round bits which make them a bit more loveable than your average supercar.

But first there's the price to consider. And the fuel consumption. They haven't tended to veer towards the economical, until now.

Because this is perhaps the most fuel efficient Porsche ever. Unless you count remote controlled ones.

This 918 Spider is powered by a part-electric V8, kicking out 500hp but which still gives you 94 miles to the gallon.

Before you get too excited, this is a concept car, so even if you could afford it you'd have a long wait before you could buy it.

All the same, it might be worth the wait to experience hair-raising speed from technology that began in a milkfloat. Now that's progress.
