Banksy v King Robbo: round two

I don't know if any of you remember when Banksy kind of painted over a forgotten bit of 20-year-old grafitti on the Regents Canal just before Christmas.

It was perhaps the first time that anyone other than tramps, winos and glue sniffers had ever even heard of King Robbo, whose work Banksy adopted to look like a workman was putting it up as wallpaper.

Robbo spent Christmas Day morning going back over Banksy's work in silver and black bubble writing, which is original. Banksy probably realised there and then that he had opened a can of worms.

Because like a trusty old moulting mongrel with a bone, King Robbo just won't let it lie.

Now he's set upon one of Banksy's other works down there on the canal. He hasn't exactly ruined it, but you really have to ask yourself, if King Robbo really is that bothered about his work, why isn't he putting up his own, original, stuff?

Bitterness is a nasty emotion Robbo. It can ruin your Christmas Day.

  2. Sorry I'd never heard of him until this episode, and neither has Google, evidently. But then we learn something every day and if you say he's a legend, who am I to argue?
    It's not you is it?

  3. haha no, i doubt there'd be much online, but if you did want to read a bit about him, a good book is 'london handstyles' which came out last year. he was a graffiti pioneer in the mid 80's over here.
