I've got a lot of time for Burberry. The trenchcoat maker has managed a remarkable reinvention since those dubious days when that check could be seen on the head of every teenage mother this side of Watford.
This turnaround is due in no small to the efforts of chief creative officer Christopher Bailey. Since he arrived Burberry has regained something of a classy edge, taking its cues from the new hip young swinging London.
So let's hope this new Prorsum collection is just a blip in the continuing fortunes of the great British institution.
Because it seems Mr Bailey's been a bit over enthusiastic on the style front. I mean look at Emma Watson's coat. What are those shoulder pads all about? They're sticking out so far they should have headlights attached. And what's with the double collar on that trench? Imagine trying to do that up after an evening at the cocktail bar. Don't even get me started on the handbag.
Too fussy Christopher. Haute couture this might be, but I preferred it when you stuck to the subtle tweaks. After all, classics are classics for a reason.
